Surah Al Baqarah Ayat 67 Tafseer

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

2.67-70

وَ اِذْ قَالَ مُوْسٰى لِقَوْمِهٖۤ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ یَاْمُرُكُمْ اَنْ تَذْبَحُوْا بَقَرَةًؕ-قَالُوْۤا اَتَتَّخِذُنَا هُزُوًاؕ-قَالَ اَعُوْذُ بِاللّٰهِ اَنْ اَكُوْنَ مِنَ الْجٰهِلِیْنَ(67) قَالُوا ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ یُبَیِّنْ لَّنَا مَا هِیَ ؕ-قَالَ اِنَّهٗ یَقُوْلُ اِنَّهَا بَقَرَةٌ لَّا فَارِضٌ وَّ لَا بِكْرٌؕ-عَوَانٌۢ بَیْنَ ذٰلِكَؕ-فَافْعَلُوْا مَا تُؤْمَرُوْنَ(68) قَالُوا ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ یُبَیِّنْ لَّنَا مَا لَوْنُهَاؕ-قَالَ اِنَّهٗ یَقُوْلُ اِنَّهَا بَقَرَةٌ صَفْرَآءُۙ-فَاقِعٌ لَّوْنُهَا تَسُرُّ النّٰظِرِیْنَ(69) قَالُوا ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ یُبَیِّنْ لَّنَا مَا هِیَۙ-اِنَّ الْبَقَرَ تَشٰبَهَ عَلَیْنَاؕ-وَ اِنَّاۤ اِنْ شَآءَ اللّٰهُ لَمُهْتَدُوْنَ(70)

Kanz ul Iman Kanz ul Irfan

English translation of Kanz-ul-Irfan

And remember when Mūsā said to his nation, “Indeed, Allah commands you to slaughter a cow,” so they said, “Are you mocking us?” Mūsā said, “I seek the protection of Allah ˹from this˺ that I become among the ignorant.”[1] They said, “Supplicate to your Lord for us that He may clearly state for us what kind of cow it is.” He said, “Allah says that it is a cow which is neither old nor very young, rather it should be between these states. So do as you are being commanded.”[1] They said, “Supplicate to your Lord for us that He may clarify for us its colour.” He said, “Allah says it is a yellow cow, vibrant in tone, pleasing to observers.” They said, “Supplicate to your Lord for us that He clearly tells us what it is like, because, no doubt, the cow (matter) has become unclear to us. If Allah wills, then we shall certainly attain guidance.”

Commentary

Prophets are pure from lying, teasing, and mocking others; however, clean humour is a praiseworthy trait which may be expressed by them.

Prophetic instructions should be obeyed without question. Attempting to give personal logic is a trait of the disrespectful folk.
